The Boy Scouts of America and Public Safety Training, Inc. are proud to announce an exciting new EMT (Emergency Medical Training) Venturing Crew. This is the first ever EMT venturing crew for boys and girls ages 14 up to 20 years old in the Los Padres Council area. Participants of this venture crew will be given the opportunity to be instructed by and work alongside real EMT’s and Paramedics who are experts in their fields, and learn the skills to prepare them for the State EMT course at all local colleges.
This venture crew has a commitment of 16 to 32 hours a month in order to learn the following skills; CPR (adult, child, and infant), AED, Basic/Advanced First Aid, Basic/Advanced Wilderness First Aid, ARC/BSA Lifeguard training, and Air Ambulance helicopter operations. Participants will be able to tour the County Fire Department and local Ambulance service to learn about the different aspects of Emergency Medical Services. They will have an opportunity to be partnered with one of the EMT’s and/or Paramedics and work alongside them at special events to put the skills they have learned to use. The venture crew will also train at Boy Scout Camp in the summer and assist the Camp’s Health Officer with the treatment of the sick and injured.
This is a very interactive course, and participation is a must for all of those involved. Not only do you get to learn about being an EMT but you will also be able to complete the skills and merits of the venture program. There will also be projects for those working towards Eagle Scout to complete. Books as well as a skills guide used for this venturing crew can be purchased through Public Safety Training, Inc. Many of the venturing crew’s activities will take place at Rancho Alegre Boy Scout Camp in the Santa Barbara Mountains. We look forward to seeing you soon.
