Bloodborne Pathogens

Worldwide, workers in health care related fields are at risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens, such as the HIV virus and hepatitis B virus. Designed to meet the current OSHA training requirements, Bloodborne Pathogens was created for students and employees who have potential for occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials, and even has supplemental information on airborne pathogens such as tuberculosis. The Fifth Edition has been completely revised and updated to comply with the 2005 guidelines for cardiovascular resuscitation (CPR) and emergency cardiovascular care (ECC).

BSA Advanced Aquatics & Lifeguard

Public Safety Training, Inc. along with the Boy Scouts of America and the American Red Cross are proud to offer you the opportunity to become an ARC/BSA certified lifeguard. This course is 30 hours long and is being held at Rancho Alegre Camp in the beautiful Santa Ynez mountains. During the course you will learn CPR/AED, First Aid (title 22), Oxygen Administration, Bloodborne Pathgens, and all of the essential skill needed to become a lifeguard. This course is taught both in a classroom setting and in the pool where you will be taught the skills needed to become a professional Lifeguard. This course will be taught twice in the Spring.

Prerequisite: Be at least 15 years of age, and demonstrate strong swimming skills.

CPR

Completely updated and revised to include the 2005 guidelines for cardiovascular resuscitation (CPR) and emergency cardiovascular care (ECC), CPR and AED, Fifth Edition integrates the training of CPR and AED into one simple program. This program teaches basic life support and addresses breathing and cardiac emergencies in caring for adults. It is also designed to facilitate the efficient training, testing, and retesting in the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First Aid

MEDIC FIRST AID BasicPlus CPR, AED, and First Aid for Adults is a CPR, AED, and first aid training program designed specifically for the occupational first aid provider. This extremely flexible program will help employers meet OSHA and other federal and state regulatory requirements for training employees how to respond and care for medical emergencies at work.

 Price: $50

NRA Basic Rifle Course

Learn the fundamentals of four-position rifle shooting for sport, competition shooting, or hunting. Thorough training in standing, prone, kneeling and sitting, the course also includes live-firing with a .22 rifle from each of these positions. Naturally the elements of safe gun handling are emphasized along with the safe storage, cleaning and maintenance of a rifle. NRA textbook and certificate included. Interested Boy Scouts may work towards earning their Rifle Shooting Merit Badge while attending this NRA approved course by completing the additionally designated requirements in the merit badge pamphlet (supplied by the Scout) with one of the instructors. This class covers about 90% of the merit badge requirements. As there will be range firing exercises, parental consent forms for minors must be signed by the morning prior to the start of class. This course is being taught at Camp Rancho Alegre firing range.

NRA Basic Shotgun Course

Provides the fundamentals required to hit a moving target with a shotgun. Course is the basis for shotgun hunting, skeet, trap, and sporting clays. This NRA program offers the simple method of lead known as the "swing to target" method of lead, so that brand new shooters will be breaking targets on their first time on the range. NRA textbook and certificate included. Interested Boy Scouts may work towards earning their Rifle Shooting Merit Badge while attending this NRA approved course by completing the additionally designated requirements in the merit badge pamphlet (supplied by the Scout) with one of the instructors. Wilderness First Aid

Wilderness First Aid: Emergency Care for Remote Locations, Third Edition provides information on how to handle common injuries and illnesses when medical care is an hour away or more. Designed for those who work or travel in remote locations, this comprehensive guide will teach you what to look for and what to do in the event of an emergency, and direct you to the most appropriate type of care. Completely revised, the Third Edition contains updated information on first aid training and complies with current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency cardiovascular care (ECC) guidelines.

Prerequisite: CPR w/AED

This is a 20 hour course that is being held at Rancho Alegre Camp in the beautiful Santa Ynez mountains and will be offered in the spring, summer, and fall.
This is the BSA required course for all High Adventure Scout Camps.
